China celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8. All female employees were presented with daily necessities as a token of appreciation for their everyday efforts.
We held a lucky draw on January 14, 2022, shortly before Vietnam’s lunar new year, to keep our employees motivated.
* The event was limited to a small number of employees with measures taken to prevent COVID-19 infection.
In order to raise awareness of disaster prevention among our employees, we set up a smoke house so that employees could experience first-hand how scary smoke can be during fires, and how to escape.
Our production workers took part in a Development Zone-run training session on corporate responsibility for firefighting and safety, focused on the Safe Production Act.
We have incorporated what we learned into our company's safety activities, and we continue to record zero accidents.
We carried out emergency response training—including firefighting drills and first aid training—with the Singapore Civil Defence Force, to enable us to respond swiftly to emergencies.
In order to apply the results of our research in our business, we participate in the Partner Network of the Life Science Bureau in the state of Saxony-Anhalt in Germany, and communicate with various parties from academia and industry. We also maintain opportunities for interacting with many organizations, such as the Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina, in both scientific and non-scientific fields.
On August 24 and 31, 2021, our managers participated in the Norovirus Virtual Symposium hosted by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
On September 28–29, 2021, Icon Manager Dr. Frank Thieme gave a presentation entitled “Plant-made norovirus vaccine candidates, and initial research on humans” at the 4th International Conference on Plant Molecular Biology, which was held online.
Managing Director Dr. Victor Klimyuk gave a presentation entitled “Plant-made individualized and universal vaccine candidate case studies,” at the 2nd Asian Conference for Plant Made Pharmaceuticals, a virtual conference held on October 9–10, 2021.
At Icon, we strictly comply with national requirements for the disposal of chemical waste and of potentially biohazardous waste.
Periodic inspections are carried out by local authorities, and we have committed zero violations in the 20 years since the founding of our company.
This has earned us the greatest respect and trust both from the local authorities and from the local community.
To meet biosafety and operational safety requirements, all employees attend periodic meetings. We comply with German laws and regulations, and meet the requirements of biosafety level 1.
To ensure our production conforms to Good Manufacturing Practices, we have established Standard Operating Procedures and Quality Assurance systems to guarantee high-quality experimental products in accordance with both national and international requirements; our products also cater to clinical trials.
We also invite outside instructors to provide training on data protection.
Amidst the COVID-19 epidemic, all employees have undergone training in preventing infection.
Emergency response training, which is attended by all employees of the plant, is usually held twice a year.
However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we carried out tabletop exercises on Zoom as same as 2020.
We invited one of our business partners, President Xu, to give a lecture on the Di Zi Gui, a traditional Confucian text in China. She spoke passionately about the basic discipline, etiquette, and morals required for everyday life and for working at Chinese companies, and incorporated accounts of her own experiences.
*Face masks were removed for the photograph only
Employees carried out firefighting drills while ensuring they maintained distance from one another to prevent the spread of COVID-19, and the details of this training was reported to the Development Zone.
Employees were taught how to use fire extinguishers, then took part in firefighting drills using actual fire extinguishers.
By ensuring that all employees have experience of actually using fire extinguishers, we raised awareness of disaster-prevention and improved their ability to respond to emergencies.
As part of our emergency response training, we invited expert instructors from SECOM to carry out CPR and first aid training; using mannequins, participants practiced giving heart massages and operating AEDs.
DPE will contribute to the local community by sponsoring a new training facility for the Sheriff’s Office's as a Platinum Partner. The facility provide training for sheriffs and police officers and function as a facility for local residents to use for safety and self-defense training by sheriffs. It will also offer use of the facility's conference rooms and function as an emergency shelter during natural disasters.
In China, this date is Women’s Day (a day celebrating women). On the day of the event, flowers were presented to the female staff as a token of appreciation.
To meet biosafety requirements and safety in operations, all employees meet periodically and participate in various training and education courses as required. In addition, for products that require manufacturing under GMP, we have SOPs (Standards of Operation) and a quality assurance system that are sufficient for ensuring high quality in accordance with domestic and international requirements, and we also support clinical trials. Moreover, we periodically invite outside instructors to provide training on data protection. Amidst the COVID-19 epidemic, all employees have undergone training in preventing infection.
We strictly comply with national requirements for the disposal of chemical and potentially biohazardous waste. Periodic inspections are carried out by local authorities, and we have never committed any violations for 20 years since Icon was founded This has earned us the trust from the local authorities and community.
We are a member of the partner network of the life science bureau under the state of Saxony-Anhalt in Germany. Through the network, we communicate with various people from academic societies and industries. In addition, we maintain opportunities for interacting with many organizations in both scientific and non-scientific fields.
On November 3, 2020, Manager Dr. Thieme participated as an expert panelist in an online seminar on "Molecular Agriculture" organized by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
On February 16, 2021, Dr. Jarczowski, manager of the Production Technology Group, gave an online lecture on "Plant Viruses and Human Health" to students of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Emergency response training, which is attended by all employees of the plant, is usually held twice a year, but in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the sessions were held on Zoom (August 25, 2020 and January 20, 2021).
We held disaster prevention training targeting fires caused by static electricity, which tend to occur in winter. All employees participated in the training, which was conducted based on the premise that leakage of a combustible material had ignited due to static electricity. Everyone confirmed what actions to take during an emergency, such as evacuation, mock fire extinguishing, requesting support handling the fire, and contacting the fire department. After the training, a review meeting was held to discuss the importance of wearing protective masks and conducting fire trainings. We will make use of the training to enhance safety going forward.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, employees made sure to maintain distance from one another while conducting evacuation drills, and we reported details of those activities to the development zone.
In order to create safe and secure workplaces, we have worked to promote safe behavior, and take emergency protective action against unforeseen accidents through such activities as a safety quiz contest (October 2020) and a disaster drill (December 2020).
We raised employees’ awareness of disaster prevention by conducting fire drills consisting of fire evacuation exercises and training on the use of fire extinguishers.
The development zone hosted a training session on corporate responsibility for safety, with a focus on the Safe Production Act, and our production staff took part. We have reflected what we learned in our company's safety activities, and we have continued to have no accidents.
We held a safety and health knowledge contest (quiz competition between workplaces) to raise employees’ awareness about safety.
(This year's event was held during the COVID-19 pandemic, so participants wore masks and kept their distance from one another.)
We donated 1,000 masks to St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
We donated $5,000 to food banks through a charity (United Way).
We strictly adhere to the national requirements regarding the treatment of chemicals and potential biohazard wastes. We are regularly inspected by the local authorities, and earn the trust of the local authorities and community with our clean record.
